Adult Singles Ladder

The 27-point scoring format

This format awards points to both players. A player's position on the ladder is determined by his/her number of points. This encourages players to play matches to maintain and improve their ladder ranking. The number 27 represents the maximum number of games that could be played in a match (7-6,6-7,1-0; 10-pt tiebreaker in lieu of a 3rd set). Here is how it works:

1. If the winner is the higher ranked player, he/she receives 27 points minus the number of games the loser won. These points are added to his/her current points.
2. If the winner is the lower ranked player, his/her previous point value is replaced by the value of the opponent's points plus an additional 27 points minus the number of games the loser won.
3. The loser always receives 1 point for each game he/she wins. So, if you can't win, lose hard!

Example 1:
Jane beats John 6-3, 6-2
Before the match, Jane had 42 points, John had 56 points
Jane now has 56 + 27 - 5 = 78 points
John now has 56 + 5 = 61 points

Example 2:
Jane beats John 6-4, 6-4
Before the match, Jane had 40 points, John had 32 points
Jane now has 40 + 27 - 8 = 59 points
John now has 32 + 8 = 40 points
